How a Metropolis Iron Drapery Hardware Stays on a Curtain

A drapery medallion does not clamp, pierce, or permanently attach to the fabric itself. Instead, the curtain is gently styled around the medallion and supported by a hidden structural bracket system mounted to the wall.

At Metroiron, we use a two piece bracket system designed specifically for drapery medallions, not traditional wrap around tiebacks or hooks.

How the Metroiron System Works

The system has two main components that work together:

1. The wall mounted bracket (structural piece)
This bracket is installed securely into the wall first. It includes an open receiving section and a small tightening mechanism that allows you to lock the medallion in place once positioned. This is the part that carries the weight and controls projection.

2. The medallion post (rod piece)
Each drapery medallion has a solid rod extending from the back of it. This rod slides directly into the open section of the wall mounted bracket.

Once the rod is inserted, the medallion can be adjusted forward or backward to achieve the desired spacing from the wall. After positioning, the small set screw on the bracket is tightened to secure everything in place.

When clipped together, the medallion becomes a fixed architectural anchor rather than a loose decorative hook.

How the Drapery Is Held

The curtain is styled between the wall and the face of the medallion. The fabric rests naturally against the medallion surface instead of being wrapped around an arm or forced into a loop.

This approach allows the drape to:

  • Fall naturally

  • Maintain soft folds

  • Avoid stress points or fabric distortion

  • Stay visually clean with no exposed hardware

The medallion acts as a visual stop and styling point, while the bracket does the structural work behind the scenes.

Projection Options for Different Drapes

To accommodate different fabric weights and fullness, Metroiron offers multiple bracket projections:

  • Standard Wall Mount: 3 to 5 inches of projection
Ideal for most residential drapery and standard panels.

  • Extended Wall Mount: 5 to 7 inches of projection
Recommended for heavier fabrics, layered drapery, or extra fullness. This option is available for an additional cost per bracket.

  • Cornice Mount:
Designed for installations where the medallion needs to project from a cornice or valance structure rather than directly from the wall.

These options ensure the drape has enough space to sit properly without being compressed or pulled unnaturally.

Where to Find the Mounts

These options are found on every product. That way, you can find the best fit for your home and drape.

Once you choose a medallion you like, simply navigate to "Mount Selection" and select from the dropdown menu. That way, we can provide you the proper mount.

Why This Matters

Many people assume medallions function like traditional tiebacks, but Metroiron’s system is intentionally different. By separating structure from decoration, the medallion becomes a clean design element while the bracket quietly provides strength, adjustability, and long term stability.

This is why Metroiron medallions stay secure, look intentional, and work consistently across light sheers and heavy drapery alike.
