I recently moved to a new home and had a plan of designing a bedroom that fit both my husband and my personalities, was cozy, and would be a place where we would both be happy to retreat to every evening after a hard day’s work. After a couple weeks of planning, a week of bargain shopping, and a couple days of painting we pretty much had our desired effect. A beautiful blue and brown room, a place to relax, it was perfect.
Except for the windows! They were definitely lacking. I quickly went out and bought a nice set of brown curtains and generic, but suitable curtain rods and rushed home to finish my bedroom paradise. With the assistance of my patient and loving husband the rods were up and curtains hung in minutes and my bedroom bliss was completed. I drew the curtains and snuggled into my bed in my new domain.
The next morning I awoke and was ecstatic to be enveloped in the wonderfulness that was my new happy place. I hopped out of bed, ripped open my new curtains, and basked for a few moments with the early morning, summer sun warming my face. I let the curtains fall from my hands and felt like it was going to be a wonderful day, but the feeling was fleeting. As the curtains rested my room became dark, no more sunshine, no more joy, just dark. Oh no. This would not do. Curtain tiebacks were a quick necessity as I panicked the memory of the warm, happy sun on my face just beyond those curtains. My eyes shot around the room and fell on two lone thumbtacks sitting on my husband’s nearby dresser. These will do! In moments the curtains were tacked back and I was reunited with the glorious sun.
Number one on my “To Do List”…..get tiebacks that don’t double as office supplies and I was off to my favorite home good store to find the perfect set. I entered the store with a single task at mind and no one could get in my way. I made my way down the window treatment aisles and located the tie backs and searched and searched and searched. I was crestfallen; there were no tiebacks that matched my rod finals. I wanted to cry, but quickly brushed myself off and ran around town like a mad woman trying to locate a tieback that would work. 4 hours and 9 stores later I found myself back home staring at my tacky tacks brainstorming and Misti St. Pierre and Metropolis Iron popped into my head. They do custom design projects and are quite reasonable (I’m a very budget minded decorator!). I raced to the computer and pounded out an email to Misti explaining my situation and even included pictures of the tacky tacks.
Within an hour, me email pinged an alert for a new email! Yes! A response from Misti! She could help! I took a few photos of my existing rods and finals and emailed them back over to her. Within a couple weeks, the UPS man was at my door with my custom designed tiebacks. I ripped open the box and unwrapped the tiebacks with the enthusiasm of a 5 year old on their birthday. I sighed as my eye caught the black gleam of iron! They were perfect! Exactly what I needed and wanted and expected! I rushed into the room and once again with the help of the ever patient, loving husband had them installed in moments. The tacks returned to the correct home on the tack board in our kitchen and I can once more rest in peace in my perfect room! Thanks Metropolis Iron!
