Cape Coral, FL- Iron fabricator, Metropolis Iron, recently partnered with the Uncommon Friends Foundation to donate a new window guard to The Burroughs Home in Fort Myers, FL. The window guard, which was designed and fabricated by Metropolis Iron owner Misti St. Pierre, is being used as the historic landmark prepares to open the third floor servant’s quarters for public viewing.
The Burroughs Home is one of Fort Myers oldest homes and is a Georgian Revival Mansion built in 1901. Located on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River, the home was the setting for many social events, hosting Fort Myers’ elite including the Edisons, Fords, and Firestones. The home is currently a historic landmark open to the public with tours of the homes and grounds. It is also a popular location for weddings, parties, and other special events.
The home is maintained and overseen by The Uncommon Friends Foundation. The Uncommon Friends Foundation, a not for profit 501(c) 3 organization established in 1993, is dedicated to lifelong character building among today’s youth and business leaders. Its mission is to promote character education in schools, business ethics in the workplace and historic preservation of the Burroughs Home and James Newton Archives.
Metropolis Iron’s recently donated window guard is featured in the window of the landing going from the 2nd to the 3rd floor of The Burroughs Home and was actually part of an Eagle Scout project for Connor Nelson. For the Eagle Scout project, Nelson wanted to clean up the 3rd floor servant’s quarters in preparation for the upcoming opening of the area for public tours. The window seemed too big of a risk to leave unguarded and so Metropolis Iron was sourced to design and build a window guard. The design hinges around the existing 1920’s décor and new window guard gives a timeless look to a gorgeous turn of the century home.
Owner of Metropolis Iron, Misti St. Pierre, thinks her firm’s relationship with The Burroughs Home and Uncommon Friends Foundation has allowed Metropolis Iron to “network with influential members of the Fort Myers historical community while helping Connor obtain his Eagle Scout Award.” Additionally, “I think it was a goose bumps moment was when I toured the home at Christmastime and was able to see my window guard from the outside. It was very rewarding to see one of my designs displayed in an iconic property,” St. Pierre states of the project.
