Curved drapery holdbacks work well for any type of curtains or drapery panel (as measured when the curtain is collected to one side) whether they are thin and sheer or thick and lined. If you have a window treatment that you know is going to have an expanded gather due to the type or amount of material you are using then you should request a large curved holdback. If you just have thin to medium panels that won’t have an out of the ordinary stack to them then a small curved holdback will be sufficient. Straight holdbacks shouldn’t be used if the drapery is going to have a thick stack when pulled back from the window. If you do want to use a straight holdback in this situation you should request a longer projection from the wall.
